Great Bag for Day Hiking

The Flash 22 has blown me away. The material feels sturdy and water resistant and it includes a safety whistle on the removable waist and sternum straps. The covered drawstring opening keeps what is inside secure from the elements and there’s space for a hydration reservoir and a sewn in anchor for your keys as well as a few smaller pockets which I use to hold some pretty hefty flashlights and a taser. The inside is more spacious than you’d think and is perfect for a day hike or small trip with minimal equipment and can be filled with snacks, first aid, flashlights and a jacket with still room for more (depending on if you use a hydration reservoir). There are so many zippered compartments that I never feel like I can’t find a place for something in this bag. It has small fabric hooks all over to hold various items and larger ones toward the bottom that can tuck away for equipment such as hiking sticks. I have a half liter swell bottle that I use in the mesh pockets on the side and as long as I’m not throwing the bag around it stays put but I would recommend attaching your water bottle to one of the fabric hooks via a carabiner for added assurance. Overall this is a great bag and I find that it holds everything I need and then some when I’m on the trail.

I have a ton of hiking packs but this REI Flash 22 is my favorite go-to for shorter 5-7 mile adventures because it's lightweight, the perfect size and super comfortable.

I have a ton of hiking packs but this REI Flash 22 is my favorite go-to for shorter 5-7 mile adventures because it's lightweight, the perfect size and super comfortable. AndIi purchased it at REI last year for under $40. You can't beat that!!

Great summit or mini day pack

When you want to go super light for the day or need a summit pack this frame less pack does the job. Has a pocket to hold your water bladder and an access hole to sting the tubing through. I find that 2L of water is it max comfort holding. Filling the Platypus big zip(3L) makes the back bow out a bit and is uncomfortable for me personally. In it's off hiking time I use this as my work backpack and it's perfect for that. Big enough for my lunch bag, paper work and everything else I need for the day.
